Headstones, commonly called grave markers, memorial stones, tombstones, grave stones or grave markers, are typically made for a single to two people grave. There are three different kind of headstones; flush marker, bevel (or hickey) and slant marker. All three of these grave stones are made out of granite due to its impervious nature. Granite withstands harsh weather conditions and time, so hundreds of years from now, the headstone will still look as nice as it was when it was first purchased.

BEST PRACTICES WHEN PICKING A HEADSTONE

When choosing a headstone, you must consider a few things:

  • Is it granite? – There are some companies that will try to sell you Limestone or Marble, but be aware that in the Midwest, and most other places in the USA, the only thing that is allowed in the cemeteries now is Granite! Also, company you will be purchasing your stone from should ONLY sell you the size of stone that the cemetery allows. Be sure that when making that purchase, the headstone company is compliant with ALL cemetery rules and regulations.
  • What is the guarantee? – Make sure that the company you get your headstone or monument from sources their granite from reputable firms. It does happen, although rarely, that a memorial can come in cracked, chipped or broken. The headstone manufacturer has to stand behind their word in providing a quality product before it gets delivered to the cemetery. Monumental Art Works only works with the best suppliers and most reliable quarries when it comes to your granite memorials. The granite we use comes from all over the world in various shapes and colors. Primarily our granite comes from the US, Norway, Canada, India, China and Africa.
  • What kind of workmanship will you get? – Although it may seem like all granite companies are alike, that is far from the truth. Every company is run different and most have their own ways of carving, sandblasting and etching. Monumental Art Works prides itself on having extremely high standards of beauty, craftsmanship and service. We have raised the bar in regards to sculpture, etchings and other custom works so when you purchase from us we strive to meet those expectations each and every time. It is paramount to see the company’s work and see if their style relates to the look and feel you have in mind for your loved one. It happens quite too often that a customer orders a headstone and it looks nothing like what they envisioned. This is why we ALWAYS provide our customers with a timely proof to show the wording and design work that will be done on the stone.
  • Does the headstone company deliver? – Almost all monument companies aren’t equipped with the proper machinery/trucks needed to deliver and set headstones. These companies will offer you an initial low price and fail to mention any additional charges; and they can range in the hundreds! Since we are production and delivery shop, we can do it all for you. In fact, our prices have the total package included so there is no additional thinking or planning that you would need to do! We take care of everything at the first time of order.
